A Panel Discussion with Audrey Tang
Digidem Lab invites you to a panel discussion exploring the question: Can participatory democracy serve as a counterforce in a time of uncertainty?
On June 5, 2026, internationally acclaimed pioneer in democratic innovation Audrey Tang will visit Gothenburg for an open panel discussion on the future of democracy.
Audrey Tang is one of the world’s most influential voices in digital democracy and civic participation. As Taiwan’s former Digital Minister, she has gained global recognition for developing new ways for citizens to engage in political decision-making—using digital technology to strengthen transparency, dialogue, and collective problem-solving rather than polarization. Tang has played a pivotal role in shaping Taiwan’s internationally acclaimed models for digital civic engagement and collaboration between civil society and the public sector. For her work, she was awarded the prestigious Right Livelihood Award, often referred to as the “Alternative Nobel Prize.”
At a time when democracy is under pressure globally, with rising polarization, declining trust in institutions, and increasing authoritarian tendencies, Digidem Lab invites you to a panel discussion on participatory democracy as a potential counterforce in uncertain times.
Can participatory democracy serve as a counterforce in a time of growing instability?
During this discussion, researchers, practitioners, and international voices will come together to explore:
- the role participatory democracy can play in a time of democratic challenges
- how digital tools can be used to strengthen citizen influence
- which processes and institutions are needed to enable meaningful participation
- how the public sector and civil society can collaborate to shape the future of democracy
The discussion will be held in English and is aimed at professionals in the public sector, civil society, researchers, and anyone interested in the future of democracy
